Parker Point Wharf Upgrades / Refurbishment
Client:
Sector:
The Parker Point Wharf Upgrades are a series of ongoing structural integrity and life extension projects at Rio Tinto's iron ore port facility in Dampier, Western Australia. These projects, which occur in phases, are essential maintenance programs focused on ensuring the wharf's structural reliability and longevity. Recent scopes have involved the remediation of wharf piles, including steel patchwork, coating application (such as the Humidur anti-corrosive system), and the replacement of key electrical infrastructure within the harsh marine environment, all carried out to sustain high-volume iron ore export operations. (Ongoing, with key phases completed 2023–2025).
Our Role
This role included specialist technical support to the Contractor undertaking critical life extension and remediation works for Rio Tinto at the Parker Point Wharf in Dampier. The Parker Point Wharf Upgrades involve complex structural integrity maintenance, carried out during limited, highly restrictive shutdown windows in a live marine and high-volume iron ore export facility. Our focus was to protect the contractor's commercial position by: rigorously developing and maintaining the project program; performing forensic critical path analysis to accurately identify and attribute delays; quantifying the time and cost impacts of client-side issues, latent conditions, or variations; and preparing robust Extension of Time (EOT) and disruption claims for submission under the contract.
